Sad News from the AAGI Family
It is with great sadness we announce that our director and friend, Kari Young, passed on from this life Christmas morning while surrounded by her husband, Bill and her daughters, Shauna and Chris.
Kari served as the director of Arizona Adopt a Greyhound, Inc. for sixteen years. She steered AAGI through the closing of the Phoenix Greyhound Park and the Tucson track closing. Through her long involvement in the greyhound community at large and her reputation as an individual with “sterling integrity,” she set up an arrangement with a California adoption group enabling us to continue our work helping greyhounds in need of homes.
About a year ago, Kari set up a team responsible for a variety of functions including events, fostering, adoptions, nails, administration, etc. None of that will change, we can assure you. With the help and support of wonderful people like you, AAGI will continue to do good work finding forever homes for retired greyhounds for many years to come. AAGI will continue in service to the hounds as Kari intended it should.
Kari received a double lung transplant 3 years ago. She lived the years following to the fullest – serving her church, running her Joy to the Pets business and caring for Greyhounds. May the memory of her life and her enthusiasm deepen your appreciation for life today.
In lieu of flowers – please consider a donation to the Arizona Adopt A Greyhound Organization on Kari’s behalf. If you scroll down on this page you will see an area for donations. Click Donations and then the small box that says “On behalf or Memory of” and you will be given an option to type her name.
Arizona Adopt A Greyhound is proud to be one of the nation’s largest Greyhound Adoption agencies. Lots of dedicated and hard working volunteers have made AAGI the successful program it is today.
We keep all of our dogs in foster homes. We host or attend various special events throughout the year as well as regular Meet & Greet events so people can see what wonderful pets these “greyt” dogs make. We have relationships with racing kennel owners who like us to take their dogs, plus the ever returning stream of dogs coming back for divorces, deaths, moves or finances. We always have dogs for adoption!!

Stop by to say hi and learn more about adopting a greyhound. Since our dogs are fostered in homes all over the valley, available dogs are NOT usually on site but we always have “floor models” on hand along with any outgoing placements so you can see what terrific dogs they are. The New Adopter Orientation is from 6:00 – 7:00pm and required prior to any adoption. We appreciate you emailing us that you plan to attend.
**In months that have a 5th Friday we will be at PetCo from 4:30-6:30 pm but will only schedule an Orientation on request.
Donations to AAGI are the life blood of our organization and we are always grateful for any help you can offer.
Please go to Donations to donate in $10 increments.
We are working hard to make sure everybody knows what is going on with AAGI. We email out notices of events, the Nail Clinic and other news we want to share.
If you are NOT getting email from us it is because we don’t have your current email. Please email Marleigh and she will get that fixed.
Also, if you are getting our email but would prefer not to, just ask Marleigh to remove you.

This is a residential neighborhood just North of the PGP – cross streets 44th Street & Osborn – see map below. There is plenty of street parking and a fully fenced yard to keep our hounds safe. We will have signs but if all else fails call Joni @ 602-999-2900.
